Willingdon island
One of the best ferry destinations in India, a spectacular example of an artificial island, connecting Fort Kochi with Ernakulam, a historic island built at full swing in 1936 by then Madras Governor Lord Willingdon and engineer Robert Bristow – the details of Willingdon Island are impressive. Willingdon island is one of the most amazing creations made by humans to date. A floating island that offers a scenic panoramic view of the entire land on the banks of Kochi Lake and a popular evening destination for tourists visiting Kochi gets usually occupied by the people in and around Kochi. Built originally for facilitating entrances to cruises arriving at the Kochi Port, it has now evolved into a prime tourist attraction today. Along with providing picturesque views, it also provides a starting point for the backwater tourism of Kochi. A visit to the island will be mesmerizing due to panoramic views of the lake, busy streets, steep buildings with shopping malls, delicious seafood restaurants, and technology parks. The breezy wind and calm ambiance, fully enjoyable with a walk over the bridge that connects the mainland of Kochi to the Island, is perfect for a hangout with its soothing atmosphere. The island, which is accessible both via road and water, require no entry fee.
