A skip to this 600-year-old palace is truly a must-visit if you are someone curious about the rich heritage of Kerala. The Poonjar Palace is built completely based upon Vasthu Shastra- “the science of architecture”- and has a temple-like structure. What distinguishes this royal palace from others is the miniature form of Madurai Meenakshi Temple that is contained within this massive heritage structure, which is also built based upon Vasthu Shastra. No doubt, the architecture of this palace is going to mesmerize each one visiting this place. And it seems that the palace is still in the bygone era with the unruined furniture, sculptures, gabled roofs, wooden drony Ayurveda massage bed, chandeliers, and many more attractions that look like new. They are made with high-quality wood from our own Idukki forests. The drony bed was carved out of a single wood piece and the rosewood sculptures are alive here. The palace hall seems like iterating the old stories of the past through the sculptures that face its visitors- from the corners. Furthermore, the small exhibition hall like setting near the hall appears to be narrating how the royal family used to carry out their daily activities and how rich we were in terms of crafts and architecture.
