The Kunchan Nambiar Smarakam
Killikkurissimangalam is where the revolution for equality in Kerala society was born in the form of art, in the 17th century. Hence, one of the must-visit historic tour destinations that has a tremendous story of the origin of Kerala’s unmatched art form- Ottan Thullal- to reveal. Killikkurissimangalam was the birthplace of Kunchan Nambiar, a distinguished name in the history of Kerala’s traditional arts, and is famous for the Kunchan Nambiar Smarakam, a memorial set in his memory. It was he who developed “Ottan Thullal” on his own. With this art form, he initiated a social revolution to erase the caste and inequality that existed then. The Kunchan Nambiar Smarakam has a stage named Kalithattu for staging Thullal and other art forms in it. A library, a Thullal training division, and a museum also are contained in it.
