Edakkal Caves
Set on a remote hill area at Edakkal, Edakkal Caves undoubtedly are the most ancient historic remains that dates back to atleast 8000 BCE. As per historians, these caves were inhabited by the ancestors of human kind at various points in history- including Neolithic age- making it the precious historic monument that give valuable information about the past.
These caves, which technically are not caves, but a formation happened by splitting one huge rock are best known for the rare and artistic drawings and writings- which can be the indications that our ancestors wanted to convey to the young generations or the proof of prehistoric settlement in this place- contained in it.
One can reach these caves only after a trek to the Ambukuthi Hills which once was an ancient trade route. As the caves are placed beautifully on a hill peak, the caves offers splendid panoramic view of the nearby valleys and other places.
