Chittumala is an island-like small village in Kollam surrounded by three major waterways namely Kallada River, Ashtamudi Lake and Chittumala Chira. The place got its name from its mountainous geography, which is called Chuttum mala in Malayalam. The prestigious local self-governing body has been awarded several times and is the most famous block panchayat in Kerala. With mountains all around, Chittumala is a glorious village with a wonderful landscape. It comprises of 13 Gram panchayats that form the southern boundary of Ashtamudi Lake. Additionally, this place is well-noted for the ancient Sri Durga Devi Temple and Chittumala Chira.
