The extremely splendid beaches of Alappuzha include the popular Alappuzha main beach, rarely crowded Marari beach, Punnapra beach- a romantic getaway destination that is also renowned for Ayurveda treatments, Thumpoli beach- a scenic one with canals merging with the sea, Andhakaranazhi beach which is a natural ridge underwater, and the busy harbor in Thottappally beach. The famous name- Venice of the East- is glorified by these beaches.
The Alappuzha main beach is a popular beach destination for both locals and foreigners. The piers that line up extending to the sea, aged around 150 years, are proof that Alappuzha beach had a significant role in the maritime history of Kerala. Now, this historically significant beach has been transformed into a very popular vacation destination offering picturesque views at both sunrise and sunset as well as a spacious park namely Vijaya Beach Park which boasts a lot of playful activities for children along with leisurely options for the elder ones. An abandoned lighthouse also is there to add beauty to the beach. The entertainment options aren’t just limited to the park, instead, the beach shore itself is full of activities wrapped in a family-friendly atmosphere. Many famous events like the Alappuzha beach festival and Sand art festival are held on this shore every year, attracting thousands of tourists to this place. The beach with golden sands spread on the shore is an ideal location for jogging, adventure sports like parasailing, volleyball, and surfing, trying new dishes including “uppilittath (food preserved in saltwater)”, and playing with sand. And for the curious ones, the beach has seashells to offer, which are often discovered on the sea bed. It is open on all days from 5 am to 7 pm.
