Ponnani
Ponnani is a heritage tourism destination in Kerala that is abundant with cultural, religious, ancient trade, spiritual, pilgrim peculiarities as well as a lake and beach. The place was active in trading with the Arabs who used to barter gold coins, and this resulted in naming the place as Ponnani, derived from the Malayalam world- “Naanayam”. At this place one will get an amazing view of Ponnani river confluencing with the Arabian Sea. This scenic coastal town is surrounded by an estuary, backwaters as well as Arabian Sea. Renowned for the Hindu and Muslim shrines located side by side, which tells the story of sailors who was stuck in a storm at sea, is a captivating sight here. The Hindu Shrine, namely Thrikkavu temple is an ancient temple that is an abode of artistic culture and architecture. The Ponnani Juma Masjid, located nearby, was built by an Arab theologian who once landed on these shores. The masjid is famous for the major festival called Nercha.
To add to its scenic beauty, the place is blessed with the serene Biyyam Kayal as well as the pristine Padinjarekkara Beach. Both being a popular destination, offers ample opportunities for water activities and boating.
