Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Thattekkad
Also known as Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, this is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala and ever since its inception, one of the most visited ones in India. Spanning an area of just 25 sq km, the place was discovered by the distinguished ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali. He is known as the ‘Birdman of India’ for his keen passion, curiosity, and achievements in avian life. This unspoiled and evergreen forest is located on the fertile embankments of the Periyar River. It offers the following trails, towers, and camps for better exploration of the area.
