One of the highest arch dams in Asia- the famed Idukki Dam is a tourist’s paradise. Unlike most of the dams, this is a scenic double curvature Arch dam. Built across the Periyar River, the dam is tucked between two hills namely Kuravan and Kurathi. Famous for Idukki hydroelectric project, the water from the reservoir is used for producing electricity at Moolamattom, which is famous as India’s third largest underground hydroelectric power station.
