Shankhumugham Beach
Shankhumugham Beach is praised by the Keralites as the ‘Arattukadavu’ of Sri Ananthapadmanabhan- the deity of Thiruvananthapuram. Located just a drive away from the Trivandrum International Airport, the place is also loved for its soothing ambiance constituted by the calm wind and scenic views. It is here on the shores that the Hindus perform rituals for ‘Bali Tharpanam’ on specific days. The beach is also grounds for ‘Ganesh Nimarjan’ at the Vinayaka Chathurthi festival. The beach has several structures like the stage with pillars and the large sculpture of Sagarakanyaka- the mermaid. Also, the ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Park makes it suitable for families to visit the beach with kids.
