A lovely and silky hill station with almost all of the trails seem like non-existent wild paths, Peermedu is a haven for absolute trekkers. Situated 40km away from Kumily in the Idukki district, this is one of the counted hilltop destinations in the entire state that nestle among the western ghats. Apart from the intended visitors, this hill area gets even more visitors as it spells a magical call to the people who pass by this route to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. It is said that the place took its name from the Sufi saint, Peer Mohammed who was a close associate of the then Travancore royal family. The place’s beauty is even more enhanced by the luxurious plantations over here. The enchanting odors of tea, cardamom, rubber, and coffee spread all around refreshes one instantly. And the summer palace of Travancore Rajas (now a guest house) adorably blends the beauty of this place with the history and offers its visitors a view of a well-maintained monument here.
Major activities possible here are trekking, cycling, and horse riding. Kuttikanam- the ultimate adventure and trekking destination- is located 3 km from Peermedu which is also called Peermede.
