Attappadi- a picture-perfect frame of an extensive mountain valley wrapped up in a tribal village situated near Mannarkkad in Kerala, is more than just a tourism spot. Attappadi, a part of the rich Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, has a protected forest area that is home to various flora and fauna. The valley over here, along with the neighboring ones are called the natural Goldfields. Speaking of the village- the “ooru” for locals, the people worship a mountain peak namely ‘Malleeswaran’ which is considered Lord Siva, a Hindu deity, and the Sivarathri festival is celebrated grandly by the villagers. Inhabited by Irulas, Mudugas, and Kurumbar category people, the tiny village is like a diamond hidden in a seashell, that can be compared to the natural beauty of Attappadi, constituted by the huge peaks, huts made with bamboos, wild and gorgeous flowers, turbulent river, medicinal herbs, unique flora, and fauna, refreshing climate, plantations, crops, and the innocent people. A stay- either during the day or night in the ooru, will be an unforgettable experience in the life of one who comes here.

As a hill area, the place also offers ample trekking opportunities for adventurous stark travelers. And as a major portion of Attappadi lies in the reserved area, permission from forest officials is required to expedite in this area.
