The developing town of Cherthala situated in Palakkad is an upcoming tourist destination of Kerala. Marked by the existence of several religious centers, the place depicts a prestigious harmony of multiple religions. Now a major pilgrim destination, Cherthala boasts many temples, churches, and mosques. Cherthala is mostly famous for the “Cherthala Karthyayani Devi Temple” which is an ancient temple here, and the one behind the name of this town. The name can be broken into “Cheru (mud)” and “thala (head)”. The idol of the deity here was found in the mud with its head portion under the mud, hence the name originated. Besides this temple, the town also boasts Muttathu Thirumala Devaswam temple, Church of St Mary Forane, and many other sub-shrines.
Cherthala also boasts some monuments and memorials, along with an Infopark at the heart of the town.
