Designed in the Dutch style, this cemetery is surrounded by tall walls and the year 1724 is inscribed on the entrance pillar. Normally, the cemetery is closed, but it is opened upon request by visitors. 104 epitaphs and tombstones document the lives of hundreds of people of Dutch and British descent. The graves are mostly made of granite or red laterite and have no crosses. On the tombstones, there are both large and small inscriptions in old Dutch script. Today, the cemetery is managed by the Church of South India (CSI). An index of those buried here is kept at the St. Francis CSI Church of Fort Kochi. In the book St Francis Church, Cochin by T W Venn, the last person buried in this cemetery is Captain Joseph Ethelbert Winckler. He was buried in 1913.
