Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary – a picturesque group of islands spread across the Kadalundipuzha River which is home to over a hundred species of native birds as well as migratory birds, is escorted by the spectacular sight where the river confluences with the Arabian Sea. Situated at an altitude of 200 m above sea level, the sanctuary is a heaven for avid bird watchers. The whimbrels, gulls, terns, herons, brahminy kites, cormorants, red and greenshanks, and sandpipers are often seen casually flitting about here. This lesser-known sanctuary is also rich with varieties of fish, mussels, crabs, and enough snakes, vipers, kraits as well as poisonous cobras. The place which also boasts a small hill nearby is what adds more tourism potential to this area. The hill offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area where one can just relax and spend lots of time, and enjoy seeing the birds who are trying to intervene in one’s privacy.
