Kayyur- the land of rebels- has now opened up as a tourism destination giving even more tourism potential to the district. Situated near Cheruvathur, set on the embankments of the Thejaswini river, also known as Kariangode River, the village is historic for it was the grounds for the famous Kayyur revolt, conducted by farmers and workers, in which 4 young martyrs were hanged to death by the British, in 1943. In honor of those brave men, red monuments have been set in the area. Also, a bridge that makes this place easily accessible to anyone who enters into this place has been built recently connecting Paalayi and Thaankayi banks, where only ferry services were there.
A famous Kannada writer, namely Niranjana has written
work on the basis of this village and Kayyur revolt.
