Kottancherry Hills is considered the abode of ideal trekking trails contained in a lush green rain forest in north Kerala. With so much resemblance to the scenic Kodaikanal, it is the favorite picnic destination of youngsters and adventurers and part of the Ranipuram wildlife sanctuary. These hills got their name owing to the shape of a fort composed of the nearby hills Kottancherry, Kumban, Pannyar, and Kanthanpara respectively. Fine-tuned like a fort structure naturally, it is amazing to view these hills altogether.
The hills being closer to the splendid Brahmagiri Hills offers panoramic views of the Kodagu mountains which is part of Karnataka state, especially from the Kumban hills.
Due to the natural setting of greenery and mist all around, the valleys are very scenic as well as compelling for photographers. A binocular might help one to zoom in on the wild creatures wandering here and there.
One can reach this spot easily by road from Konnakad which is 8km away from this hill area. Nearby is the Thalakaveri- the origin of the sacred river Kaveri- equipped with river rafting and other adventure activities. And this adds up to the adventurous tourism scope of these hill areas.
