The father of the Malayalam language was born in the vicinity of this museum -Thunchan Memorial Trust & Research Center- that stands with pride here. Founded in 1964 as a committee to preserve Thunchan Parambu- the exact birth location of Ezhuthachan- was slowly turned into a memorial trust. Under the leadership of famous author M T Vasudevan Nair, the trust took one more step ahead- and the Thunchan Memorial Trust & Research Center was born. With a pure mission to widespread the magnificent Malayalam Language to all kinds of audiences that include kids and grown-ups, locals as well as foreign tourists, and researchers, the center is center continues its amazing work. Additionally, Tirur boasts a few famous temples also- Thirunavaya Sree Nava Mukunda Temple and the Alathiyoor Sri Hanuman Swamy Temple. Located in the northern embankments of the Bharathapuzha river, the 5000-year-old Thirunavaya Sree Nava Mukunda Hindu temple is believed to be one of the 108 Divya Desoms. The temple is peculiar because it does not have a pond or a well, so the temple is completely dependent on the river water of Bharathapuzha. The temple is famous for its supremacy in Vedic philosophy and its teaching, with Veda Paadda Saalas.
A 3000-year-old Hanuman Temple called Alathiyoor Sri Hanuman Swamy Temple is also a renowned pilgrim center in Tirur. Believed to have been erected and consecrated by one of the major Saptharishy named Vasishta, the temple’s main deity is Hanuman. People believe that a visit to this temple is powerful enough to cure all mental agonies and their wishes get fulfilled. Devotees flock to this temple which has a sacred platform of a granite stone that is a symbol of Hanuman’s leap into Lanka for Lankadahan. Devotees believe that a leap over this stone will be beneficial for their kids’ health and life.
