Ponnumthuruthu Island
The uninhabited Ponnumthuruthu Island is one of Kerala’s most beautiful backwater stretches set on Anjengo lake, possessing rich biodiversity and scenic surroundings. Unruined by commercialization, this place is a haven for tiny migratory birds and is marked by the ancient Shiva-Parvathi Temple. Ponnumthuruthu translates to “Golden Island” which is true due to the magnificent views and serene ambiance observed here. In continuation to Akathumuri lake, Ponnumthuruthu is located 20 km away from Varkala.
This quaint tourist destination is accessible only by a special ferry from Nedunganda in Varkala.
