Silent Valley National Park
The ‘non-silent ‘ Silent Valley National Park, situated in the rich biodiversity of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, is a dense forest ecoregion giving a home to thousands of varieties of flora and fauna, enclosed by land stretching called Buffer Zone for 148 sq. Km. Widespread with lush green grasslands, this forest range is always abuzz with the humming and bustling of nature. With more than a thousand flowering species, a hundred orchid species, nearly 200 butterfly species, 400 moth species, 150 bird species, 128 beetle species, and even more rare species of plants and animals, including which are found nowhere in the entire world, this park is an excellent recreation option for tourists. Sairandhri- the main entrance to the undisturbed forest tract national park, really is a great door to this phenomenal ecosystem which is truly an out-of-the-world location. The Nilgiri Tahr and the Lion Tailed Macaques are two of the most famous animals over here. With that being stated, one may encounter other dangerous animals and terrifying adventures also awaiting in this wild jungle. The soothing sound of water flowing in the Kunthi river adds a musical rhythm for one standing amid woods in this area.
Robert Wight, the famous botanist, explored the park and it is now one of the most extensively studied national parks in India. As it is an ideal biodiversity hub, it will be a miss for wildlife fanatics if they don’t visit this place at least once in their lifetime. The park’s valley areas are part of the wet evergreen forest ecosystem. Hill areas that are tall around 1000m are located in the South Western Ghats montane rain forests, whereas those above 1500m are called Sholas. Ecologists find these two parts of this part really worth researching for their rich biodiversity. And discovering new species of plants and animals in this region is a common process here. The famous Bhavani, Kunthipuzha, and Kadalundi Rivers are originated from the vicinity of this national park.
