Thalangara (Thalankara)
Thalangara (Thalankara) is a lesser-known harbor in Kasaragod has great potential for tourism with this estuary as well as the confluence where the Chandragiri River meets the Arabian Sea. The place was a famous destination for Arabs in history, primarily for the traditional caps manufactured and exported from here to foreign countries. The place also received global fame for the same cap which is a flat round cap that is woven with gold threads and intricate designs. Moreover, the cap also has mentions in the writings of the legendary writer Ibn Battuta, dating back to the 14th century.
Apart from its handicraft heritage, the place is a favorite destination for migratory birds. The birds flittering around when the fishermen are busy on the harbor is really worth a visit. One can click snaps from here which can be the replication of fishing life.
Thalangara is also unique in the fact that the area, which is divided into mohallas (translated as localities), has its own mosque as well as a madrassa in each locality, making this place a cluster of mosques and madrassas. The place also hosts the oldest and the biggest hospital in Kasargod.
