Thirunelli Temple
”Kashi of the South”, ”Sahyamala Kshetram”, “Brahmagiri Mahavishnu temple”, “Thirunelli Temple”, and the “Sree Thirunelli Mahavishnu Temple”- the names to this temple are many but the temple is one. Situated near the pristine Brahmagiri hills in Wayanad, this ancient temple is famous for the marvelous stone aqueduct that helps ensure that the water supply to the temple from the forests does not stop. This aqueduct is made up of a stone-based structure that is rich in Kerala’s traditional architecture, containing channels of water supply and huge pillars. Even today, water streams through these channels, seeing which is breathtaking.
A cave temple namely Gunnika with a deity as Lord Shiva is present nearby. Devotees flock to this place to perform ancestral rites on the banks of the nearby Papanasini river.
