Vadakara – formerly known as “Kadathanadu” in the age of Zamorins – is a coastal town in Kozhikode that boasts several tourist destinations soaked in history. Thacholi Manikkoth, the place where the legendary warrior in the history of Kerala used to practice is still being conserved here. And many foreign tourists, as well as regional people, flock to this place, which is also part of the epic ballads namely Vadakkanpattu. Also, the Lokanarkavu temple, which is also mentioned in these ballads, exists here even today adding much of the historic heritage to this place.
Additionally, a Kunjali Marakkar memorial renowned as Kottakkal is there on embankments of the Moorad River and serves as a museum that displays ancient weapons and more.
Apart from these historic places, Vadakara has a calm hamlet where one can just sit and indulge in peace while overlooking the confluence of the Kottakkal River and the Arabian Sea. The beautiful sunsets observed here are a favorite of anyone who has ever visited this place.
