Vythiri
Vythiri, a picturesque locality in Wayanad, is famous for its pleasant weather throughout the year, spice plantations, beautiful forests and greenery, and the myriad cultures of its tribal residents. A picnic here is one of the best in the entire state. The beauty of Vythiri draws tourists from all over the world. Also, the accommodation facilities here allow delightful stays.
Vythiri holds a mystery named Chain Tree located at Lakkidi, a nearby tourist destination. It is said that the Ghat road to Vythiri was built by an English engineer from information given by a tribal youth. When the English engineers received the necessary instructions, they killed the tribal guide. The spirit of the tribal youth was enraged and caused many road accidents. Therefore, a priest chained the spirit to this tree in Vythiri. Passing motorists even pay homage to the tree, thanking it for allowing safe passage. Bangalore and Mysore are connected to the east by a road from here. As this sector goes through the Bandipur national forest, night travel is not allowed.
