Set across the tributary Walayar of the Kalpathipuzha River, the dam is more an irrigation project than a focused tourism attraction for Kerala. Built in 1964, the dam reservoir act as a prime supplier of water for the nearby villages in Walayar, a border town of Kerala and Tamil Nadu states. Even though the dam has a scenic hill landscape on one side and the backwaters of the dam on the other side surrounding it, making this spot has potential for major tourism in this area, the unavailability of rain and hence water is a major problem faced here. But that doesn’t prevent people from visiting this place- tourists still visit the dam as it is picturesque as well as tranquil.
