Mampuram, once a prime place that was part of two national movements, the Khilafat movement being the major one, has a rich history of it to pass on to its visitors. Now renowned as a major Muslim pilgrimage center, the region is one of the prestigious tourism destinations of Malappuram. Set on the Malabar Coast 26km away from the east of Tirur, the Mamburam Makham- the heart of tourism here- is a shrine famous for the Malappuram Nercha that is held near the tomb of Sayyid Mouladaveela Mamburam Thangal, the man behind this shrine, every year grandly. The shrine is established mainly to be a mausoleum for the dead bodies of the principal Thangals. Apart from the shrine, the place also boasts Thirurangadi Juma Masjid which has been mentioned in historical documents, as the masjid from where the local Khilafat leader Ali Musliyar used to operate.
