The uninhabited island of Dharmadom was earlier known as Dharmapattanam. Formed as a result of rock projection between the Anjarakkandy River and the sea, this island is situated at a walkable distance of 4km from the Muzhappilangad beach. As it is near, one can go to the island by walking when there is less tide and water reaches one’s knees only. But if one goes there by foot, one should return back before the tides increase. Other than walking, one can also take a boat from the Moidu Bridge to reach this island. Although now uninhabited, the island has traces of human presence there. A well is seen there. And many medicinal herbs are also observed. The island was a private property until 1998 later which the government took over this land for development as a major tourism destination. Located near Thalassery town, the beach is a perfect location for one to feel peace and rejuvenation. The dense canopy of coconut trees and other plants makes this a tranquil location. Also one can witness the amazing view of the Anjarakandy and Thalassery Rivers confluence with the Arabian sea here.
