Talakaveri (Talacauvery)
Talakaveri, also known as Talacauvery, as the name implies is considered as the origin of the sacred river Kaveri. The place, marked by a major pilgrimage shrine is considered to be a holy place and the pond nearby is famous among devotees where one can take a dip. Placed beautifully on the Brahmagiri hills that are adjacent to Coorg hills, this elegant tourist spot shares its border with Kerala and Karnataka. Offering the magnificent panoramic view of the mist-covered valleys where one can reach after surpassing a large number of steps, is another attraction in this area which draws thousands of visitors every year. The place and the river Kaveri have a myth regarding its origin. It is believed that the water in the pond goes underground and rises again after a short distance (where actually the river begins). But in the monsoon, there is a water flow from this place joining the Kaveri river.
The place is located 36 km away from Panathur town and Cauvery Changrandi is a major day in the temple (usually in October).
