Kurisumala, popularly renowned as Amrithamedu- the hill of the Cross- is a prominent pilgrimage and trekking trail along the Western Ghats. Located within the Kuttikkanam region of the Idukki district, Amrithamedu is the highest point in the region. As part of Easter festivities, pilgrims ascend the ‘Stations of the Cross’, which direct them to cover 14 points, each with a cross corresponding to the different phases of the last journey of Jesus Christ. The trek offers panoramas of tea estates and the rolling Kokkad Hills in the distance. By the time one reaches the ninth cross, one stands on a ridge that is draped in mist and it is quite a sight.
