After that, the place got the name Gandhi Road. With this, many found this beach a regular host for public meetings. The walkaways, statues, kids’ park, and stalls nearby are favorites for everyone who visits the beach. But a major disadvantage that holds tourists back from this spot is that swimming is not allowed here.

The magnificent beach of Payyoli is a significant element of Kozhikode’s tourist attractions. It is 40 km long and is blessed with shallow water that is ideal for playing in the water and swimming. The shores, decorated with tall and swaying trees along with the gentle breeze, mark this as a tranquil beach. The golden sand spread on the shores smiles gently at every beam of light kissing it. The waves crashing on the shore create a rhythm in one’s ears.
For one curious about the fellow inhabitants of the beach, thousands of endangered species of Olive Ridley Turtles are waiting here. The turtles come here every year-end to lay eggs. And one of the most pristine scenes in the world- the baby turtles marching outside from the eggs and joining the sea is visible here. The conservation center named “Theeram” stands here with pride to save these turtles. To note, no government is behind this conservation center. It is a group of local fishermen who founded this center- which implies the goodness of local people living nearby. A bird sanctuary also is built nearby which is an estuary of River Moorad. Renowned as an ornithologist’s paradise, this place has a mission of preserving many local and rare species of birds including the migratory ones.
